A MobilePhone App (Mimix Sign language) that converts speech and text into signlanguage (2014)By MahmoudDarawshehMimixSign Language Translator is a mobile app. that interprets spoken and writtenEnglish into sign language using a friendly avatar. The Mimix avatar willinterpret text/speech input in English and deliver real-time sign languagetranslations, enabling easier communication with the deaf & hard of hearingcommunity without having to know sign language. The interpretation is based onthe American Sign Language (ASL).
Two Way Communications: Mimix Sign LanguageTranslator also translates text into spoken words, so the deaf person can writetext using keyboard or sign language keyboard, which is then spoken and signedsimultaneously.Morethan 2000 people reported to the team about how their problem has been solvedor reduced. Some doctors are using it with their patients. Many grandparentsexpressed their feelings to their deaf grandsons. Also many are using it tolearn sign language. Few people reported they use it to teach their autistic kids.
The application can be seen in figure 2.1. Althoughthe proposed solution provided was to help communicate between the speechimpairment people and normal people and to learn sign languages. It can beconsidered a limitation as it doesn’t serve as an effective solution when it’simplemented to help with the communication between the impaired person andnormal person patients as it is not easy to learn sign languages. It is helpfulfor education purpose to make other people understand sign languages but notfor daily purpose where person are busyon daily basis and it can needed in a urgent way that time the person can’tlearn sign languages. Moreover,it needs close proximity and it requires visual.
Toovercome such step backs our solution is to implement easy communicationbetween the normal and speech impairment person. Smart phones come with the motionsensors so it will convert motion into speech. We don’t need to always see thephone we can just hear it. Therefore it does not need close proximity.
