“We are living on this planet as if we have another one to go through.” – Terry Swearingen. The main cause for climate change is due to a huge impact from humans. There is evidence that about 8000 years ago the climate of Middle East and Antarctica was much wetter than today (Cam).
Large aquifers were plentiful as well as fossil fuels. Serious droughts have become much more serious and common in many parts of Africa. They are now being warned by climate analysts that more torment is expected next year as the effects of climate change start to have effect (Inews). Temperature and rainfall patterns are changing but the changes are unpredictable, and there have been extreme flood and drought. Humans are responsible for climate change because humans are causing pollutions in general that lead to greenhouse gases and deforestation. Air pollution that humans emit leads to climate change. A pollutant associated with climate change is a part of smog called sulfur dioxide. Sulfur dioxide and related chemicals are known as a cause of acid rain.
Acid rain caused by humans is changing the soils function all over the world. If there is loss of calcium in soil, calcium depletion will impact the ecosystem and the acid rain will also be part of the problem for climate change. Tiny atmospheric particles called aerosols are a branch of air pollution that gets in our atmosphere. Most aerosols are made by natural processes, such as erupting volcanoes, and human agricultural and industrial occupation. When the soil is at its limit to protect, the acidification makes aluminium accessible to the soil. “Aluminum is harmful to everything, from diatoms to spruce trees,” said Lawrence, a scientist for the U.S. Geological Survey (Cornell).
Air pollution includes greenhouse gases and one of these includes carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is caused by the exhaust of trucks, buses and cars that humans use. In addition, a researcher named Hallam that is into political campaigning said, “air pollution is killing people now and it is related to wider issues of climate change and our reliance on fossil fuels.
We have to take action now and make people aware of what we are facing,” (The guardian). By trapping the earth’s heat in the atmosphere, greenhouse gases lead to warmer temperatures and signs of climate change by rising sea levels, heat-related deaths and severe weather. Scientists agree that today’s warming is mostly caused by humans placing huge amount of carbon that is in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, such as when we burn fossil fuels, oil and gas.
Scientists gathered enough evidence and improved their methods of helping understand natural and human factors and they have confidence in saying that the main problem is heat-trapping gas and humans are responsible for the average warming over the past decades (Ucsusa).Greenhouse gases in the atmosphere have increased since the beginning of the industrial age and almost all of this increase is because of human activities (Epa). Garbage is the major help to climate change because the landfills have powerful methane, a greenhouse gas. Every time someone throws garbage or waste, this is contributing to climate change and it is said that about one third of the greenhouse gases emitted come from food waste alone (Yournec). Architecture McDonough states saying, “the problem of carbon in the atmosphere is not carbon’s fault. Climate change is the result of breakdowns in the carbon cycle caused by us. It is we who have made carbon toxic — like lead in our drinking water or nitrates in our rivers.” On top of this, there has been a major climate disaster in the U.
S. in 2017. It has been said that NOAA, National Centers for Environmental Information did not connect human-made climate change to the big disasters that took place the year before. However, burning the greenhouse gases certainly highered the frequency of climate disasters is in controversy among many scientists (Al Jazeera). Deforestation is caused by many reasons including greenhouse gases, forest fires, illegal logging, and mining. The surplus of these greenhouse gases in our atmosphere is harmful to life and the environment.
With a huge amount of these gases being released into the atmosphere by human innovations, the greenhouse effect is raising the temperature. Numerous plants and animals cannot adapt to temperature changes in their environment quickly, therefore, this is producing many to become endangered, and extinct for some (Nature). Each year, fires burn millions of hectares of forest all around the world. Forest fires have been exceeded for years allowing huge, unnatural vegetation that makes the fire burn more greatly and this has brought consequences to the climate, biodiversity and economy. Illegal logging happens in all types of forests across all continents destructing wildlife, nature and making community less lively and this harvested wood goes to utilization markets.
Also, due to high mineral prices, there has been a lot of mining happening in forests. Since mining projects are supported by physical and organizational structures and facilities such as buildings and roads, this put pressure on freshwater ecosystems and forests (WWF). “The world’s rain forests could completely vanish in a hundred years at the current rate of deforestation,”(National Geographic).
