To explain how employee engagement can be used to increase motivation levels, we need to look at first what is employee engagement and why does it matter. Employee engagement is a workplace approach resulting in the right conditions for all members of an organisation to give of their best each day, committed to their organisation’s goals and values, motivated to contribute to organisational success, with an enhanced sense of their own well-being to quote.

Employee engagement is based on trust, integrity, two way commitment and communication between an organisation and its members. It is an approach that increases the chances of business success, contributing to organisational and individual performance, productivity and well-being. It can be measured. It varies from poor to great. It can be nurtured and dramatically increased.Employee engagement is used in all roles particular from a manager, because he or she can use things within their power to help reward there staff but to also keep them motivated, some examples are the reward scheme at Santander, this works by keeping staff motivated and for many different reasons, example the affiliation, achievement and power of the McClelland all works with this as the each colleague will strive to archive their best reward and rating for their own personal reasons not just for money, power for example to get the best reward and highest rating to feel they are the best and most valuable.

Another example of employee engagement to increase motivation will be letting a staff member be a champion of a certain area or product, we have recently chosen a protection and life cover champion at our branch to a lady at work who loves affiliation, her desk is surrounded by family photos and she really enjoys social nights out with colleagues. So using the affiliation as employee engagement this has motivated her and she even asked to come in on her day off to see our protection manager she that day he was in for he lieu day, this shows using certain triggers can really engage that remember of staff and bring the best out of them and this will also relate to a better performance for her/them and the organisation. Employee engagement means a lot to me, as it make me feel wanted by the company and appreciated, I am personally an achiever when it comes to Maslow’s theory which we have discussed so being rewarded and mentioned or nominated helps me to find the recognition I desire.
