The Decameron is one of the best
creation in the Early Renaissance by Giovanni Boccaccio. The Renaissance is
standout amongst the most fascinating and debated times of European history. The
Renaissance was for some time consigned to a profound ghetto between the
medieval times and the transformation. The Renaissance is viewed as a time
resurrection from the dark Ages of Europe to the more illuminated and dynamic
periods of Europe. Boccaccio’s The
Decameron reflects Renaissance free enterprise and how Europe experienced
an economic and social immorality. Boccaccio emphasize how the corruption,
immorality spread across Catholic Church. Members of the Catholic Church were
financially and politically corrupt. They misuse their administrative power and
benefits their everyday lives. They were selling their religious view to
fulfill their desire. Boccaccio presents numerous tales depicting the
corruption inside the Church. Boccaccio’s The
Decameron talks against this corruption and mirrors the common disposition
of living as joyfully as could reasonably be expected, downgrading the
principals of Christian ethical quality that had administered everyday life in
the time before the Renaissance. The thoughts of this paper will accentuate how
Boccaccio investigate Catholic Church from his own view and faith and emphasized
how revealing defilement of the Catholic Church is to be sure fundamental and
solid for the destiny of the Christian world.

            During
the Renaissance, thoughts and beliefs changed comprehensively. New ideas and
beliefs leads each individual to the sin and profiting. Preceding the
Renaissance, it was viewed as wrongdoing to charge enthusiasm on acquired cash.
In the late middle age and Early Renaissance there are new trend came, charging
interest on financial transaction. Therefore, society could accomplish new
height in the Renaissance. Society experienced Individualism. According to Arts
Columbia The Medieval times and the Renaissance each had their separate views
of humanism. The Renaissance rejected all beliefs and ideas that the Medieval
times had developed. Medieval times thought that the human body and
individualism were sinful while Renaissance thinkers said that individualism
should be glorified. The main complaints made against the church were
corruption and false reverence inside the ministry. These grievances mirrored
the Renaissance thoughts of independence in that the church believed that it
was k to utilize investigate the properties of the human personality (Arts
Columbia). It is extremely clear that Boccaccio’s The Decameron reflects Renaissance capitalism and individualism.
Individuals selfish thoughts and beliefs lead Catholic church to the hypocrisy.
The attitude of the general population towards sin began to change, sin became
more acceptable in the society when the advantage of sinning was getting to be rich,
which corrupt the Catholic Church as well people who associated with Church. The
attitude of the Clergy was more terrible than that of the common people.
Previously, the Catholic church was thought to be the best place for ethical
quality, trustworthiness, and profoundly established in customs and customary
methods for considering. But, in the period of the Renaissance the morality of
society moved and wound up clearly in light of money rather loyalties. Boccaccio’s
The Decameron frequently criticizes
the contemporary corruption of the Catholic Church.

            The
second story of Day One in Boccaccio’s The
Decameron is about Jew men named Abraham. Where Abraham travels to Rome and
observed the Catholic church and discovered the true fact about the Catholic Church.
The behaviour of church were devastating. As he mentioned

That every one of
them, from grates to the least, was given over to the worst sort of lechery, not
merely the kind which accorded with Nature but also that practiced by
sodomites. The did so, moreover, without a scrap of shame or conscience, and
the courtesans and pretty boys could ask the earth in exchange for their favours.
(The Decameron, 37).

Immorality, dishonesty took all over
place in Catholic church. Everyone selling their religious view to accomplished
their own intention. The mentality of the pastorate was more terrible than that
of the people, as the church would have had a clear thought that their
eagerness for benefit was a wrongdoing. They were covetous for making benefit;
they sold and exchanged all that they could including religious beliefs. Pastorate
individuals trespassed as well as did as such transparently. The premise of the
Church was in Rome, yet in Rome this sort of indecent conduct was acknowledged
and consistently drilled. The Church was sullied through to its base. Ministry
individuals were deceptive, showing a certain something what’s more, working on
something very extraordinary. Basic clerics were similarly as degenerate,
offering liberalities and opportunities to see false religious relics. They
lied and guaranteed that by giving up cash, parishioners could spare their
souls. During this period, the Church was the main impact of society. The
congregation earned this title decades sooner when masses of individuals
acknowledged upon themselves the ethics of the congregation. A genuine pioneer
is very imperative. A pioneer is the facilitator behind the movement of a
group, of a general public. Pioneers in this way, must consider the gathering
and not about themselves. All individuals directing a gathering must take after
this manage for the supporters give the pioneers their energy. In any case the
Church broke this example and overlooked the general population they were
administering. According to Abraham,

I was not aware of
having seen in a single clergyman there the smallest degree of holiness of
piety, nor any work of mercy, or example to follow; only lust, greed, gluttony,
deceit, envy, arrogance, that sort of things and worse if worse there be in
person – all these held, as I could see, in such high esteem, it was enough to
leave me thinking I was in the devil’s smithy, not in God’s workshop. (The
Decameron, 38).

Pioneers are put into intense
positions. They move toward becoming responsible for their life as well as
different also. Sadly, pioneers regularly move toward becoming mixed with
vitality that the power gives them and wanted to be venerated for forever.
However, the motivation behind a pioneer is given individuals a chance to
discover the power inside themselves not to proclaim one better than all. The
congregation totally lost concentration of their legitimate position. Boccaccio
was bringing up that the blemishes of the congregation were significantly more
unsafe in light of the fact that it didn’t just influence the pastorate however
since the congregation was a pioneer it influenced society too. This impudent
demeanor towards transgression, and resisting God notwithstanding when they
plainly realized what they were doing wasn’t right was a mentality that debased
the Church, and the defilement in the pastorate affected the citizens.  Christian profound quality was being
downgraded, seen as optional to having a decent time and carrying on with a
cheerful, natural life. Individuals had a no second thoughts attitude towards
ethical quality and did whatever satisfied them. The stories of the book mirror
this downgrade of Christian profound quality that was influenced enormously by
the corruption of the clergy.
