time who also fought for us, to do

time the woman had an important role in art,in literature and many other fields but only as a muse, as an object, as acreature who can charm a man and take his mind not as an individual which iscapable of more. The woman had a role in the family as she was the one who borechildren and took care of everything around the house but not the one who couldmake decisions. Nowadays, in the twenty first century, things have changed, therole of the woman changed from being a housewife to being a female boss, frombeing the weaker sex to being  powerful, decision making leaders. Although there are still many issues to be dealt with,it is a huge step forward for women.

The feminist movement is responsible forthe emancipation of women and also the brave women who stood up for their rights, for equal rights with men, and tried to make a change for future generations. Thefact that powerful women from the showbiz industry fight for the same cause aswomen did 50-80 years ago shows that many of the feminist objectives have notbeen met and we, women, still have something to accomplish and we owe it to ourfemale ancestors who also fought for us, to do so.           Chapter 1TheoreticalFramework of Feminism            What is feminism, one might wonder.

Feminism is more than a discussion topic and even  more than a movement. It is not a belief thatone gender should be raised in power above another, that is should give womenmore rights than men already have. Feminists believe that people should not bediscriminated because of their genitalia, something we have no control over; genderis not a source of power or the lack of it. Gender is not an acceptable excuseto have power over another person, not matter the age, the race or the socialbackground.

We should all be equal as we all are at birth so equal opportunityis a feminist belief. Feminism is a movement towards equal society for male, female and transgender people, without discrimination. People should not feeldiscriminated against for being who they are.Merriam-Websterdictionary explains “feminism” as: “1: thetheory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes2: organizedactivity on behalf of women’s rights and interests”1          The word”feminism” comes from the french ” féminisme”  and it was first recorded in 1841, accordingto the online Merriam-Webster dictionary.  Therefore, feminism exist since 19th centuryalthough it may not have had the same meaning or importance as it has nowadays.            In this chapter we aim to analyzeand pinpoint the aspects of feminism, the beliefs and also discuss women’sliberation movement in order to identify the causes which led to the women’srevolt.              Feminists’ efforts targeted thetraditional image of the woman, an image that was socially accepted by everyoneand which portrayed the woman as the mother, the nurturer, the angel the house orthe perfect wife as the Victorian period concluded. Truthfully, the woman wasseen as the passive partner of the man, the one who had no power or say so, norshe could  make a decision in thehousehold or in society because the spouse or father, the strong and brawny, could make the decisions for his the meek, powerless, shy wife or daughter.

Onesuitable example, is Coventry Patmore’s poem entitled “Angel in theHouse” in which he exemplifies the image of the woman in a man’s point ofview:” Man must be pleased; but him to pleaseIs woman’s pleasure; down the gulfOf his condoled necessitiesShe casts her best, she flings herself.(…..

…)”2Eventually, thewoman assumed this role that society had her in and for a long period of timeaccepted it as a reality until women’s became aware that this was definitelydiscrimination and acted on it.

Society began to feel threatened by women whodesired to access education, leadership roles and also the same amount of moneyas men. Men began to question the reasons of feminism and believed that thewoman should not be involved in such things,, she should stay pure; we believethat men were just anxious and enraged because feminism empowered women tostand up for themselves. Being equal with men symbolizes in feminists’ dream achance for women to have the same opportunities as men and to build their livesand identities after their personal principles. Because feminism issuch a complex subject, there are views for and against it; the fact thatfeminism is understood as a movement that endorses the woman and makes her bethe subject of a riot is for some inexplicable. The fact that there are womenwho are sexist is also a reality, therefore not only men are the ones who wishto abolish this movement and what it stands for.
