One has to consider that hotel industry isone of the most dynamic and rapidly growing industry in recent years. Forrunning such industries, properties require skilled employees. Employees whocan work efficiently and properly. Employees who can handle the work pressure.As a result, the employees are seen working for 12-14 hours on a daily basis.So, it becomes really very important to study the convenience and go throughthe working areas and places where the employees are working. If the companywants better performance from the employees, it is also important to see if thecompany is efficiently taking care of their employees or not.
A proper trainingis very much required for the newly joined employees as it will help them toknow more about the hotel and will help to understand the working of the hotel.Training is a part of the humanresource development. Human resources also takes care of the activities such asrecruitment, selection and compensation.
The role of human resource departmentis to improve the organization’s effectiveness by providing employees withknowledge, skills and attitudes that will improve their current or future jobperformance. In order to implement the right training methods, the trainingspecialist should be aware of the pros and cons and effectiveness of eachtraining method. Besides, for evaluating training effectiveness, measurementshould be done according to the models.
“Training” refers to a systematicapproach to learning and development to improve individual, team, andorganizational effectiveness. The world is changing rapidly. As a result, itbecomes very important for the human resource to look after the needs andworking conditions of the employees. This is only possible when the humanresource head takes an initiative. In most of the hotel properties in India itis said that the employees are not treated properly.
Whereas in othercountries, employees are working efficiently and properly. The core reasonbehind this is the changing world of work. Changing world of work means thepeople who are working in the human resource department needs to be aware ofthe implications of globalisation, workforce diversity, technology changes,labour shortages, decentralized work sites, changing skill requirements, andthe contingent workforce and employee involvement, etc. If anyone of thisprogram is in function, it could change the whole business operation.
Thereforeit is very important for the human resource to be prepared and take control. Itis really very important to train the employees first before making them work. Purpose andobjectives of ResearchAs a bachelor in Hotel managementand choosing a career in hotel industry, various elements influencing thehospitality industry have always been a keen interest for me. In which the mostimportant element was importance of training in this industry. Training isdefinitely an important part of hotel. But how does it happen? Who conducts it?This research becomes very important to focus on the training developments ofthe employees working in 3, 4 and 5 star properties. The main area where thehotel invests, is on the employees. So it becomes very important for them totrain them properly.
At the end, it is the performance of the employees whichis in focus. People loves to get pampered and privileges and it is the service,which keeps them going. It also very important to understand the working of theemployees during the training period. My research area is Manipal, Udupi andMangalore. So the main objectives of this research is-1. To gothrough and examine the training system of the 3, 4 and 5 star properties inUdupi, Manipal and Mangalore and to make appropriate recommendation for moreeffective training system in future.2. To evaluatethe training and development programs of these hotels.
3. Torecognise the training needs and effective training methods in order to meetthe goal of hospitality industry.Throughout this research we willstudy on the performance management of the employees. We will ask them theimportance of training in their life. Why training is very important forbeginners.
Will ask them the significance of the training. It is very importantto know the working from their point of view. Then only we can make any furtherconclusion. For this the human resource needs to be active. The research isprimarily on the human resource where we will see how the human resourceactually handles situations.
Few says training is very helpful as they aregetting to learn a lot of things while working. Other say that the hotel isjust treating them like other employees and the learning outcome is minimal.This research will also help us to find the solution for the employee problems.This will also help the human resource to improve accordingly.
