Shipping services played a vital role in the development of modern economies. Nowadays, the shipping industry has grown tremendously with the introduction of highly sophisticated sea vessels.
In the field of the shipping industry, computers are used by companies in order for them to have a quicker way in the issuance of tickets. A ticket gives the passenger the right to board a ship. It indicates that the passenger has paid for or is entitled to a specified service. In most cases, shipping companies encountered problems with ticketing because the passengers need to queue up for a long time just to buy ticket and ask for information. With the aid of computers, the company can provide an easier way of travelers with comfort. The use of computers could help much lessen the work load employees and it can minimize the time and effort in searching particular information. It can simply be defined as a machine which takes instructions and perform computations and operations accordingly. It can work as a continuous worker and provide outputs for respective inputs in a pre-decided manner, so there is no need to enter one input at a time.
It can process various inputs simultaneously. Because of this exclusive feature, computers play a crucial role as an application device in application based services. In J & N Shipping lines, the teller spent considerable time in supplying passenger’s data and calculating discount fares to minors, students and senior citizens in the ticket. And sometimes an issued ticket contained the same sleeping cot number issued to another ticket that caused confrontations among the passengers. Because of this, the researcher was interested to design and develop a ticketing system for J & N Shipping Lines as basis in implementing an automated system and to provide better services to the passengers.
Theoretical Background of the StudyA ticketing system is composed of a computing facility. The computing facility is operable to receive an order, for goods and or services of a provider, transmitted to the facility by a remote input device; ascertain if the goods and or services ordered are available from the provider in sufficient quantities to permit the order to be filled; transmit to the remote input device, if goods and or services availability has been ascertained to be insufficient to fill the order, a notification as to non-availability; and, if goods and or services availability has been ascertained to be sufficient to fill the order, satisfy the order. The system permits limited-availability tickets to be sold from remote locations, via remote input devices. The mechanism by which data flows in use of the system is sufficiently efficient to permit the system to be deployed, for example, on debit or credit card readers as are commonly possessed by merchants. The system can be deployed on wireless debit or credit card readers, as used by merchants at festivals and the like.Merchants can thus utilize ticket sales as a supplemental source of revenue, and enterprises can use merchants and others as agents for ticket sales, even in respect of limited-availability product that would conventionally be sold via a box office. The system can be flexible, to permit the enterprises to tailor the price and availability of product from agent to agent. This, for example, permits an enterprise to sell tickets at lower prices in economically depressed areas, or in areas where a given event or product has heavier competition in comparison to other areas.
The system also permits enterprises to reduce the amount of currency that might otherwise be received by ticket vendors or acceptors.Other advantages, features and characteristics of the present invention, as well as methods of operation and functions of the related elements, will become more apparent upon consideration of the following detailed description and the appended claims with reference to the accompanying drawings, the latter being briefly described hereinafter.Related StudiesEvery huge company in the world wide needs a computer in ticketing system to be help the company run in the smooth way. Generally, a ticketing system is familiar in the industry. There are many aspects still to be assessed regarding the implementation of a computerized ticketing system in some company, with special attention to the routines and facilities that the new system brings to the operational management of the whole business. The several existing system will be reviewed and compared. The information collection for the literature review on ticketing system is from many resources, which are in e-books and published documentations such whitepaper and journal in web site.
The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA). They are aiming to adopt e-ticketing for passengers and for cargo loads. Based on them, the comparative study can help the people who travels on comparing the automated and manual ticketing system, and some respondents chose automated ticketing system and there are some respondents choose the manual ticketing system. The respondents said that the automated ticketing system is very useful to the company because by the use of technology the processing of tickets can make faster and easy. More respondents preferred the automated ticketing system for automated ticketing is very useful and there would be lesser errors in producing the tickets.
Based on the software used about ticketing system, it is a asset to a company because the fast production of tickets are very helpful. (http://myais.fsktm.
um.edu.my/1625/, 2009)Metro’s New Smartcard Ticketing System.
Metro will commence a public education and promotion campaign on 14 August 2008 to promote a new ticketing system. The new Smartcard-based system will replace the existing ticketing system and be used on all Metro services in Hobart, Launceston and Burnie. Initially the campaign will see eight of Metro buses, 5 in Hobart, 2 in Launceston and 1 in Burnie, displaying the new promotional livery. The bus artwork has been designed to feature a location specific to the city in which the buses will operate. In Hobart Mt Wellington is recognized in the artwork, Launceston buses feature Kings Bridge and Burnie has the beachside image of the Surf Club. In addition to the on-bus advertising, Metro will be rolling out ongoing information over coming months updating customers about the developments of the new system.
Proposed Computerized Bus Ticketing System for Parts Transportation Co. Inc. The proponents of this study have gathered the information from Parts Transportation Co. and found out that it has a sluggish transaction in ticketing that is why the traveler turned out to be dismayed.
To improve this dilemma, the proponents of this study made a system that satisfies the needs of the traveler in getting their tickets in faster and in convenient way.The proposed system aims to eradicate the traditional ticketing system of bus which is paper-based. The proponents make use of Smart Cards, which are fast, easy and secure way to pay a range of products and services. Smart Cards are durable plastic cards; this can store values in an embedded microchip- similar to a prepaid phone card, only better, smarter and re-loadable.
