During the years between 1980 and 1992, there were many different events that happened between both President Reagan and President Bush. As we will discover, if these events did not happen, America would not be the country that it is today or would the outcome be different if these events happened differently. Within this paper, we will be talking about Reagan and the “Evil Empire” and the Technological Revolution.
Both of these events helped change America but what we want to know is what would happen if both of these events had not occurred or if they happened differently.Reagan’s “Evil Empire” was a speech that was given on June 8, 1982. Even though Reagan did not use the term “evil empire,” he was describing the collapse of global communism as inevitable. Within Reagan’s speech, he talks about how other societies had communism and how they all failed at it. Reagan talks about how historians study the rise and fall of communism and what exactly happened with each of these societies and how the government reacted. While describing how communism was falling in these societies, he was also telling the United States why our country should not follow in these other societies footsteps and go to communism. If Reagan did not tell the American people about communism, then maybe, just maybe, would America be a communist country today.
We probably would not have all of the freedoms that we have today and we probably would not be able to have the privileges that we have as a country. Our military may also not be as strong as it is and that would make America look like a very weak country and from that, we would probably have a lot of countries coming after us and trying to take us over. The Technological Revolution is also known as the Second Industrial Revolution. Within the past twenty to thirty years, technology has been moved so quickly and has advanced so quickly that it is taking the older generation a long time to keep up with all of the new technology. If technology was not able to advance as fast as it is able to, then we might still have technology from the early 1990’s. Every year, there is some sort of new computer system, or phone, or tablet, or any other electronic device that you can think of, coming out. Do you remember when it was a must have to have a beeper or when you had to save your files for school assignments on a floppy disk or even when you or your parents had to say, “Get off the internet.
I need to use the phone! ” Well, I do, and I am really glad that in today’s world, we do not have this technology. Another example, do you remember when MySpace first came out? This was back in the late 1990’s to early 2000’s and now, if you pay attention to some of the commercials that come on the television, you will see that MySpace is trying to make a comeback because of Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, YouTube, and so many other social media cites. As we can see, if it wasn’t for Reagan talking to our country about communism and if it wasn’t for our technology being so advanced, who knows where our country would be today. Even though technology can get people distracted from day to day activities and teenagers need to have their phones constantly attached to their hands, we can still see that technology has also improved our lives with medicine and the way that we can communicate with each other. Reagan on the other hand, was smart when he decided to educate the American populace on communism and why it cannot and will never work.Referenceshttp://ezinearticles.com/?The-Second-Industrial-Revolution—The-Technological-Revolution&id=4935987
