Physical Education During the four years of High School I noticed how many students ditch, do not dress, or do not put effort into their Physical Education class. But I especially saw this when I became a leader for a Freshmen P. E. class. Kids took this time to socialize or as break from their core classes.
There was that one hand full of students who did take their P. E. class serious, the rest would say, “It’s only P. E. ” For those who do not dress get “punished” by having to go sit in a study hall during the class period. If exercise is not mandatory throughout the school day when will the youth make time to exercise?Physical education should not be a debatable topic, especially now when the U. S.
is facing a huge problem with childhood obesity is when we should reinforce exercising throughout the day. Others would say that P. E. should be optional to those who are fit, and mandatory to those who are unfit, however, if you think about it who will be the right person to make the decision whether a student is fit or unfit. This an cause a student’s self-esteem to lower, not Just that but this can also trigger bullying.
I disagree that physical education should be an option.Physical education should be a mandatory class and there should be a bigger punishment for those who decided to not dress. America’s youth needs to become more active.
With all the new technology advancements there are a lot of new activities for students to do after school. Before the video games, the computers, and the ‘Pads, the only thing there was to do was run outside playing tag or a game of soccer. But now a days kids sit on the couch play video games, and what is better than playing video games and eating Cheetos, pizza, or other Junk foods, NOTHING!Kids do not make time to exercise; therefore it is very important that they take a physical education class during the school day. Not only will they be taking a break from math, reading, and science, but they will be exercising their body. With students having a mandatory physical education class they are at listening engaging their body to the recommended about of exercise.
Children now spend more than seven and a half hours a day in front of a screen” (Rideout). Children need that hour during school to be active and exercise. Many may argue that P. E.
should be based upon a parent’s choice to take care of their child’s physical activity, not the schools. But I disagree with them; physical education should not only be enforced during school but also at home. A parent should be involved on keeping their child active. I believe that it is important that a student should learn how to stay fit and the proper way to exercise from a rofessional, therefore it is important for the board of education continue to make it mandatory for students to take a physical education class.
By mandating physical education from a young age, kids will learn the importance of being active and staying fit. What’s a better place than to start from school? Children will then carry the importance of being fit to their homes and continue to exercising in their free time. Not only is exercise good for a student’s growing body but it also a way to help the student learn. According to Wendy Suzuki, a processor of neuroscience, she was ble to remember facts after she had gone to the gym.Suzuki transformed a course into half exercise and half lecture.
But in order to prove her theory she also created the same exact course without the hour of exercise. Her result showed that those who did exercise did a lot better throughout the course. Proving how important it is for student to have an hour of physical education. Like I have stated before physical education classes allows for a student to take a break and go back to their core class with an open mind ready to learn.According to the American Heart Association, only 4 percent of elementary schools, 8 percent of middle schools, and 2 percent of high schools provide daily physical education programs. With the rates of obesity doubling in the past 30 years, the percentages of the school should be higher.
If all schools worked together to create an environment where students can exercise and be more active America can decrease the rate of obesity. If an adult participated in a physical education class as a child they decreased the chance of them being overweight by 5 percent.Exercise belongs in the classroom; therefore, it is essential that school continue to mandate physical education.
Physical activity not only does it help with a person health but it can also be very enjoyable, it can help the blood flow and have a student ready to learn. Cutting physical education class is one less opportunity for a child to learn how to stay fit and active throughout their life. Physical education should be mandatory in every school in the nation not only will it help a student learn but it will also help lower the childhood obesity in America.
