Human Resources REFERENCES Our information used to create this MIS system was all found on at http:// capsim. om/menuApp/studentMain. cfm. This includes all tables and charts used to create any formulas provided. SUMMARY OF SYSTEM 1.
Charts- This system relies heavily on using tables and charts to find information for the correlating formulas. On each spreadsheet there is a table included that will help determine the decisions that need to be made. To keep things more simple, any chart that includes the information about our competition, Digbys information will be highlighted in pink. This way there will be no confusion as to which information is for which company. 2.Formulas- Formulas are crucial in this system to determine hat the future decisions for the company should be. Many formulas are included on almost every spreadsheet to help determine whether a decision is going to help the company or hurt the company.
In attempt to keep the formulas simple, all information that must be entered into the formula is provided on the table given. Using the formulas is simple; Just enter the numbers asked for and the answer will be calculated. SYSTEM COMPONENTS 1. Main Page- The main page of the information system includes a table of the year end statistics for 2017 (round 4).Highlighted in pink is our specific statistics for Digby. Also included on this page is the Balanced Scorecard chart, which includes all customer related data and product related data which we are scored on throughout the simulation. 2. Segment Data- All current customer buying criteria for each segment (including price, age, ideal position, and reliability) and the statistics for each segment (including total industry unit demand, actual industry unit sales, etc.
) is included on this spreadsheet. Also included is the industry data for each product in every segment.This allows for employees to easily access crucial statistics easily ithout having to search for them. 3. Research and Development- This spreadsheet includes everything for Digbys current products as far as the perceptual map is concerned. Information shown includes performance and size of each product, and also revision date along with the total cost.
Once again, this allows for the company to look back on previous costs and positioning points of previous decisions. 4. awareness, new awareness, and potential sales if the company didn’t stock out.These formulas are simple to use and allow for decisions to be made without much hassle. Simply plugging numbers in from previous rounds can help predict sales and other marketing decisions. 5. Production- This spreadsheet includes first a chart containing all the production data from the previous year including plant utilization, units sold, unit inventory, etc. Included is an ROI formula which is to be used when buying automation.
6. Finance- The finance section includes income statements, balance sheets, statement of cash flows, and an overall financial summary.All the formulas needed to assist decision making such as return on assets, working capital, etc. are all shown. 7.
TQM- Included is an overall summary of decisions made previously 8. Human Resources- Important formulas such as sales per employee and profits per employee are provided to make human resource decisions. Also shown is the Human Resource Summary from the Capstone Courier which provides information needed to be included for the formulas. EMPLOYEE TRAINING In order for this information system to be utilized to its full potential, all employees must be trained to use this system properly.The system must be implemented in a way that is easy for employees to understand so it will make their decisions more fficient instead of time consuming. In order for this to happen, employees need to take a half day (or 4 hour) training course on how to use the system.
This course will help them fgure out how to use the system to most benefit themselves and the company. This course will include step by step instructions by an experienced employee who works with each employee individually to ensure understanding.Each employee will practice finding information from the included charts to use in the given formulas, and then write what decisions they would make and their reasoning behind it. Afterwards, the adviser of the course would review the decisions to ensure each employee understands the system. Another crucial part to this training course is that each employee will be trained to use the ENTIRE system, not Just the section dedicated to their position with the company. It is important that each employee understands what the other departments of the company are basing their decisions off of and what influences those decisions.
By implementing the system in this way, all employees will be able to make well informed decisions for every department. IMPROVEMENT IDEAS As all other information systems, our system will always have ways that it could be improved to make better decisions. As far as formatting the system, we could potentially find an easier way for employees to find the specific data they are looking for.
A search program should be added so employees can look up the specific data they need to find. Our system also includes tables of the previous year’s data, but a way to view past historical data could also be beneficial to making decisions.It is important to view last years results when making decisions, but being able to see ecisions made 3 years ago could also benefit the company as well. A dropdown menu should be included to choose which year the employee would like to view.
Improvements as far as the formulas are concerned include adding more formulas to making, however other formulas that aren’t as critical (but still helpful) should also be included. Lastly, a more professional system should be used than what is currently being used (Excel). Programs such as Access could potentially be more helpful to employees because it is more organized and is easier to interpret data.
