Knight and Clare cook who advertised Social media for Journalists principles
and practice ‘These changes have created a more social way of doing journalism.
More people can be heard. More voices can be included’. (Cook, 2013).
There are a lot of Journalist who work for the BBC and other big companies, they
have social media accounts and websites such as the biggest ones Facebook and
Twitter to publicize their work, but by going through this action they have to
be careful and to absolutely definite that what is being put across for the
audience is the truth and not at all a lie among it, especially with videos and
images. The rise of social media and the impact on mainstream journalism
written by Nic Newman stated that ‘The BBC is careful to authenticate images,
videos and eyewitnesses before they are used in output’. (Newman, 2009) There is a lot of
instant news spreading now, the apps that haven’t been acknowledged been
noticed a lot compared to Facebook and Twitter is Instagram and Snapchat.
Snapchat has a ‘Discovery page’ where anybody is able to have a glimpse at the
type of news that is being shared and have access to the latest gossip. The
sense of these two platforms they are not as huge compared too Facebook and
Twitter but is still available with the most up to date news, and anyone who
can find a way to any type of technology can see it, there is also You tube which
also plays a side in the sense of viewing videos. Over the years technology and
social media has alternated drastically, it is no more a one sided street. It’s
simpler to understand how social media worked a long time ago because it was not
as complicated as it is now, How the world changed social media written by Daniel
Miller stated ‘Wind back through Snapchat and Tinder, past Facebook and QQ
though MySpace and Friendster to life before that’ pg2 (Miller, 2016)
