What is a kitchen? Is it used to make food and drink coffee? Might there be other reasons why a kitchen is not just a kitchen? You see, my daughter and I love the kitchen. We have all the equipment we need. There could be more counter space for us to work together. However, we have figured out ways to manage, even if that means shoving each other around in a fun way.
Storage, well that is another area we could improve. We do like to make it a game of hide and seek trying to find all the ingredients. Ever hear of quality time? Our kitchen is our place to spend time together and have fun. The kitchen can be a place for so much more than just cooking! Let me take you into our kitchen and show you how to have some fun. A refrigerator, stove, numerous appliances and utensils fill our kitchen. How we use them, depends on the food we have on hand.
It might even determine how we prepare a meal or snack. That is where we get creative and end up thinking outside the box – so to speak. Try closing your eyes and grabbing for a utensil or appliance, use that piece to make your meal.If you chose a table top grill, you just might be having tuna melts or even steak. This all depends on what food you have ready. We each like to pick one food item and our appliance of choice, write it on a piece of paper. The fun begins when we plan our meal around just those items and we have picked the same item and food to prepare. We will add or use other equipment if needed, but to make it fun, just imagine (or google for options) when you want a little creativity!Being creative can be extremely difficult when your day has been busy, with little time to think ‘what’s for supper’; you might hope for a quick and easy meal.
That’s when you come home to a project that is taking up all your counter space and your daughter is not home. First, I count to ten and then proceed to the cupboards. I might have all the right foods for a quick meal, but here comes the realization that I haven’t been grocery shopping in two weeks. Maybe the freezer will have some answers, oh yeah, I can make do.Except I forgot one minor detail, no working space! Take in a deep sigh and relax, we have a grill! An idea begins to become a reality; I am off the hook cooking tonight! Even the veggies can be grilled. I’ll just go set the table and wait for the fixings to be done, I don’t need my kitchen space to do that. How much more creative can I be when it sure looked grim with no food and no space to work with? I guess that is why the grill can come in so handy sometimes, besides, it tastes so good. When it all comes down to creativity, it really depends on what you have on hand.
What’s more important, is it still edible? I know with my daughter and I, certain foods don’t last very long here. We do like to bake and the shelf life for certain foods is never an issue. What does create the issue is now we have to clean.
We love to cook and bake, but cleaning is another story. Only when you put a little fun into it; cleaning can be done quicker and easier in less time when not fretting about it.We like to make a game of it or simply make a bigger mess before we get it clean.
For instance, the floor needed scrubbed; mischievous as I am, there might have been a few water showers. Needless to say, we needed all of our cleaning supplies that day! Who said being creative didn’t involve having fun? It is pretty simple to figure out that, at our house, you may never know what is going to end up on the table. If it’S trying to come up with a meal that is creative because you don’t have the right food thawed, or you choose to be different, you can have a lot of fun.Besides, you can create a variety of fantastic meals if you just use your imagination. Grilled pineapple, cantaloupe smoothies, cranberry-raisin stuffed chicken is/ARE just a few of our creations. As long as you have the right equipment, space to work in, and edible foods, anything is possible; but you just might have to adjust.
Even cleaning can be fun, (;)it’s in the way you go about it. Being creative and having fun in the kitchen can only leave you with one thought,(:) you never know what will be on the table tomorrow.
