Footvolley is very alike to beach volleyball but the feet replace arms and hands. The ball can also be played with the head, chest, thighs and feet. The maximum of passes over the net is 3. In an average footvolley game, players play 2 against 2, barefoot in the sand and on a beach volleyball court of 8 x 16 meters. A fascinating fact about the sort of footvolley is that there are no ties in footvolley. The game will continue until one team has a two point lead over the opposing team. Although footvolley is a fairly new sport, the way it started is interesting. According to the European Football League, Footvolley was invented by Octavio de Moraes in 1965, Brazil. Footvolley mixes field rules that are based on beach volleyball rules with another rule called the ball-touch rule, which was developed by the rules from association football. The sport is basically volleyball but played without arms, and that caught the interest of many professional football players. Recently, professional soccer players have taken up footvolley in both  celebrity matches and promotional events. Initially, teams of footvolley had five a side. Due to the skill level of the athletes, the ball would rarely drop. The players lowered the number of players on each side, ultimately settling on 2 challenging 2. The 2 versus 2 game is still used today. On the beaches of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. in the 1990, the first official footvolley tournament was organized. In 2011 UAE hosted the Footvolley World Cup with 27 countries that participated. Footvolley’s objective is to play the ball over the net, to the opponent’s side without letting the ball touch the ground on your side of the court. Number of participants are 2 players on each side of the court which means 4 are playing. The points are scored just like volleyball, it is scored by the ball successfully touching the ground of the opponent’s side. Servs in footvolley are kicked in and the player has 5 seconds to serve once the referee has blown the whistle. The ball should be required to spin on the serve, if windy conditions exist. There is a maximum 3 touches for each player. If 2 or more players contact the ball at the same time, it is valid. Although footvolley is a very fun game, there are limitations. For example, no player is allowed to touch the ball consecutively at any point in the game and failure to unsuccessfully serve the ball over the net is a turn over. It is illegal to: step on or over the line on a serve, using arms/hands, and reaching under the net if it interferes with the ball or opposing player. The basic techniques in footvolley are passing, receiving, and serving. The usual goal is to put the ball in a position that allows the teammate attack the ball easily and effectively. Playing the ball straight to the opponent’s side after the first touch, is allowed. On the first touch on the receiving end, the player can trap the ball using either their feet, thighs, chest, shoulders or head with the chest. Using the chest is suggested for the most efficient way to control the ball. In order to be counted, the ball has to be played with the foot over the net and behind the baseline. There are various techniques to serve the ball. The type serve varies because of the direction and intensity of the wind, also if they target the weakest player. During service, the ball is usually placed on top of a small pile of sand to help the foot execute the serve. In the sport footvolley, communication is key. These basic techniques are effective throughout the game. The basic tactics of footvolley involves offense and defensive tactics. There are various options in offensive shots: lose to the net: short ball, attacking diagonally: cross balls, near the baseline: deep ball, aggressively: fast balls, and attacking the ball parallel to the line: long line. Anticipating the attack, and good communication is extremely important in defense. Footvolley has evolved into International and National Competitions globally, regionally, and nationally. Globally. An area surrounding the court, for players chasing balls, should be 20 feet from the ends of the court and 10 feet from the sides. The Mens net height is 7′, while the Women’s’ net height is 6’6.
