During this time the adolescent must discover who they are as an individual person, separate from their family of origin, become an active member of a larger society. The teen will experiment with different roles, activities, and behaviors. During this process many adolescents will experience role confusion and withdraw from responsibility. They experience a new and exciting types of physical growth and sexual development. These mental and physical types of changes will help them to form a strong identity and develop a sense of direction in life.
