The word “crime” means an illegal action that is prohibited by law or a breakage of certain laws set forth by the criminal justice system. When someone breaks the law he/she will have consequences that will fall upon them and will be handled accordingly, whether it is jail time or probation. The criminal justice system in America is separated by each state, with each state being divided into three major components. Each state handles adult and juveniles cases differently.

The three important components are: Law enforcement, the Court and Corrections epartment. Law enforcement is the first component.Law Enforcement is the first line of action and is the most dangerous component in the justice system.

Law enforcement is important to the criminal justice system and is made up the local police precints and departments that house thousands of men and women officers and detectives who are sworn in to serve and protect the citizens off the United States. The officers head up local departments and are responsible for apprehending and securing men/women who broke the law brought together by the different states.Police officers will also be held accountable for conveying charges against criminals and to make certain the ocurrances are valid enough to hold up in the court of law. The Court is the second component.

The Court is the second line of action in the justice system and means just as much as the law enforcement. The court system consists of the prosecution and defense lawyers, many judges and juries. Each of these persons make sure those accused of a crime are given fair and equal trials before a room of their peers.

Judges are also known as “finders of facts” and “peace keepers” and they hear the cases and preside over theoffenders to make sure that all laws are meet and followed according while the cases are beingheld. Many cases are heard only in front of a judge, and other cases are tried, and have a jury of 12 peers over the age of 18 who will determine the a defendant guilty or innocent of a crime based on evidence brought forth during a trial. A jury may recommend what a sentence should be (meaning if they think the crime doesn’t fit the punishment).

A judge can and will always make a final decision or a sentence except if there are pre-determined guideline sentences that must be followed. Corrections is the third component. Corrections makes up the final major component in the criminal justice system. The Corrections pulls in the rear of the justice system by carrying out and upholding sentences given by the judges .

The corrections system goes hand and hand the two other components, it is very important and make up a large part of the justice system. The corrections includes thousands of jails, parole officers, probation officers, correctional officers and prisons spread out across the United States. The men/women that make up the staffing in these positions make certain that a defendant’s sentence and all of its terms and arrangements are served out peacefully as possible.

Laws are meant to create order. Order is a necessary means of structure so that men and women in the society know what is acceptable or unacceptable behavior and they hopefully stay in reasonable boundaries of satisfactory behavior. The citizens know that if they do not stay in those boundaries that there will consequences of varying severity in response to their inappropriate actions. Those consequences or act as restraints but also are meant to further remind the individual not to repeat the action or behavior. Having consequences also reinforce to others what will happen to them should they participate in such action or criminal behavior. In conclusion, society needs these three major components in order to maintain a safe yet structured environment.

Law enforcement will always be on the front end of the action as it unfolds, The Court system will be there to carry out any rulings performed by the judges and to ensure a fair and equal trials. The Corrections component, has an everlasting role, while the law enforcement finds and capture, and the courts determines and punishes, the corrections systems holds those found guilty either by judge or jury accountable for their actions and are there to make sure they carry out whatever the judge has for them to do either by constant rehabilitation, incarceration, or supervision.
