Chuck Berry is looked at as the first big rock and roll artist with songs such as Maybellene and Johnny B. Goode. One thing that made his success remarkable was that he was African American during a time that African American people were highly discriminated against. I chose this artist because I enjoyed listening to his music and the way that he entertained. Some of Chuck Berry’s musical influences included Muddy Waters blues music style, Nat King Cole’s smooth vocal clarity. Something that made him unique was his different style of music than the type popular at the time that helped make rock and roll big. The BluesBuddy Guy was a popular Blues artist during the 1960s and was signed for chess records. He was looked at as one of the first significant blues artists and helped contribute to rock and roll through this. Although his music was not typical rock and roll, it still helped influence rock and roll immensely by making it more popular.. Some of Buddy Guy’s musical influences include Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page. I chose this artist because after listening to a few of his songs, I enjoyed them and his style of music. Some of Buddy Guy’s productions include Messin’ With the Kid, My Time After Awhile, and Stone Crazy. Folk Rock Bob Dylan is to most the best and most famous folk rock artist during its prime. He was most successful during the 1960sa and 1970s and is most known for his songs Blowin’ In the Wind, The Times They Are a-Changin, and Like a Rolling Stone. He transitioned from folk rock to an electric approach at the Newport Folk Festival. He received heavy criticism and was booed at the festival but eventually gained even more success through it. In July 1966 Bob Dylan was involved in a motorcycle accident that put his career to a momentary halt but eventually he returned and revived his career. I picked Bob Dylan because I liked his early music and even his music after he switched to electric and he’s still around today. Some of his musical influences include Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and Woody Guthrie. Bob Dylan was important to rock and roll because he was one of the earlier artists to experiment with electric instruments and become even more successful through them.Hard Rock AC/DC is one of the most famous and successful rock and roll bands, with hits such as Thunderstruck, Highway to Hell, Hells Bells, and Back in Black. The band was successful throughout the 1970s, 1980s, and even the 1990s. I chose this band because I have heard their music everywhere and have enjoyed it and I also enjoyed watching their past performances because of how entertaining they were as performers. Some of their musical influences include Muddy Waters, Led Zeppelin, and The Easybeats. AC/DC was important to rock and roll because of how big they became through it and made it even bigger than it already us. Their music is still played everywhere around the world to this day.Glam Rock David Bowie is looked at by most as one of the most successful glam rock artists because of how unique he was. There had hardly been any eccentric performers before him and he was one of the greatest to ever do it. He entered a completely new personality to perform and entertain his audience. His music was different than that of the other big performers at the time and that was part of what made him to entertaining. Some of David Bowie’s musical influences include The Beatles, Kraftwerk, and Syd Barrett. I chose David Bowie because he was one of the first glam rock artists and in my mind was the most entertaining. Although Alice Cooper did some very peculiar things on stage, he didn’t have the “glam” that David Bowie had. Some of David Bowie’s songs include Star Man, Heroes, and Rebel Rebel. Funk Earth Wind & Fire was a band that was created in 1969 and released their final album in 2014. They were one of the most successful funk bands during the 1970s with hits such as September, Boogie Wonderland, and Fantasy. I chose this band because I still listen to a couple of their songs occasionally, specifically September and Boogie Wonderland. Five members of Earth Wind & Fire were Maurice White, Philip Bailey, Verdine White, Larry Dunn, and Al McKay. This band was unique because there were a mass amount of members throughout their time as a band unlike other bands at the time. They contributed to rock and roll by helping with making funk a more popular genre of music.Disco Michael Jackson is one of the most popular entertainers of all time and most likely will be forever. Many of his songs are known by most people and although he passed away in 2009, his music is still played all around the world and he is still celebrated as one of the most successful performers ever. With hits such as Thriller, Billie Jean, Smooth Criminal, and Man in the Mirror. I chose this artist because I listened to his music growing up and still occasionally listen to it to this day. Some of his musical influences include the Bee Gees, James Brown, and Diana Ross. He contributed to rock and roll by making helping disco become the most popular form of music during the 1980s and playing a major role in doing this. Punk Green Day was created in 1986 and is one of the most successful punk bands of the 1990s and 2000s, with songs such as 21 Guns, American Idiot, and Boulevard of Broken Dreams. I chose this band because this also is music that I listened to growing up and still hear to this day. Some of their musical influences include Sex Pistols and The Clash. They were important to rock and roll because they were are one of the most successful punk bands to this day and helped make the genre more popular, allowing for more success for more bands. Grunge Pearl Jam was created in 1990 in Seattle, the heart of grunge rock. Seattle is known as the heart of grunge rock because of most successful grunge rock bands originating from there. The reasoning behind this was due to the constant rain and grayness making the city seem depressing. Some of Pearl Jam’s songs are Jeremy, Alive, Black, and Even Flow, all of them being a part of their most successful album “Ten”. Some of Pearl Jam’s musical influences include Kiss, The Who, Led Zeppelin, and Neil Young. Pearl Jam was one of the most successful grunge rock bands behind Nirvana and they contributed to rock and roll by creating some of the most iconic rock songs ever.Hip Hop/Rap To finish it off, one of the most successful rappers with a great amount of potential that was very unfortunately murdered, Tupac. Tupac was one of the biggest influences in the hip hop/rap community and would have become arguably the best rapper of all time had he not been taken from us too soon. Some of Tupac’s most successful songs include Ambitionz Az A Ridah, All Eyez On Me, and Ghetto Gospel. Tupac’s career began when he started creating music at just thirteen years old. I chose this rapper because I enjoy listening to his music and wish that I would have been able to see him reach his full potential. Tupac was unique because of his rapping ability beyond most other peoples and his upbringing. He primarily grew up in Harlem in a poor family but still became a successful musician in his short life.
