Can one say something if he knows it? Can one be unable to say something he knows it? If one doesn’t know something then it is impossible for him to say it, as to say is to express a thought.It is impossible to express an absent thought. Certain things have one word that directly belongs to those things, most of the time it is because these things are objective concepts (if I say: dog, one would automatically recognize what it is). But what about those things that are subjective? Such as the theory of the unconscious, it is hard to say what it is exactly but one can describe it and thus still manage to express him/herself. Colors, music, and feelings are very hard to express.Thus there is another mean of expression other than language that is art. Through art artists have known how to express their feelings through color or through different use of sound (music).
Yet even saying how those two means work to give us a feeling is troublesome. Each color has a different feeling associated with it, and yet this color can be used in conjunction with another color in a different style to further portray another feeling. As for music, one can conceptualize what a piece of music could sound like by looking at a score.
To understand this score one would have to understand another language, that of written music. Yet, what about those that cannot understand it? The effect of the music is felt by all people (including those who do not know how to read a score). How can the feeling provided by the music be explained? One can know how it feels but not know exactly what makes it able to make one feel this way. Thus through the language of art one can describe his feelings with greater ease than he can with the conform mean of communication (verbal language).Smells are hard to describe as well, but they do invoke certain feelings and thoughts. Thus perfumery is an art as well that can be used to communicate certain ideas.
Music, art, and perfumery shouldn’t be used as a major mean of communication as they do not describe with ease the things the everyday language does. But they do describe things the everyday language cannot describe. Thus each mean of communication should be used at a separate time. But in order to communicate one should also be able to recognize, and apply knowledge.
One cannot know what exactly is blue if he/she cannot recognize it, just as one cannot know a math formula without being able apply it to different problems. Thus a basis should be made where blue is blue to all people, and a math formula (1+1=2) is accepted and understood by all people. This Thus provides a valid form of communication where one recognizes (understands) other’s mean of communication (art, language, math etc). Even though many of us speak different languages we can still manage to understand each other.
