Canada’s government can be described in four ways because it’s so complex. It can be defined as a constitutional monarchy, a party system, a representative democracy, and a federal government. A constitutional monarchy is when a country is associated with a monarch, a king or queen, while the actual governing of the country is done by an elected body. A federal government is a system that divides up power between a strong national government and smaller local governments. A representative democracy is a system where citizens of a country vote for government representatives to handle legislation and ruling the country in their account.
A party system is a group of people who have common goals and beliefs about how the government should run the country, province, or town. Canada is a constitutional monarchy because the actual governing of the country is done by an elected body while associated with an royal figure. It has a federal government because of its large size. It was made to make sure that the needs of the country as a whole aren’t jeopardized by the needs of the distinct territory. It represents a representative democracy by Canada electing representatives to do the governing for them.
Canada’s main political parties are the Progressive conservatives, the Liberals, the New Democratic Party, and the Bloc Quebecois. In Canada, there are three levels of governmental power. At the top is the federal government, who looks out for the needs of Canada. In the middle is Provincial level of government, where each province and territory has a government to look out for its own special neeccesisties. At the bottom is the Municipal level, and it consists of different cities and towns having their own type of government to look after their special needs. In Canada the highest elected power is the Prime Minister, who is currently Justin Trudeau. In order to become the Prime Minister, the leader of the political party who wins the most seats is summoned by the governor general and then sworn in as prime minister soon after the election.Qualities of good prime minister are accomplished politicians, a former cabinet minister, and sometimes accomplished in a field outside of politics.
Much like the U.S.’s, Canada has three branches of government, the executive, legislative, and judiciary.
The executive branch consists of the queen, or king, the prime minister, and the cabinet. The executive branch has the power to run the country and carry out the laws. The legislative branch contains the House of Commons and the Senate and they have the power to make the laws. The judiciary branch consists the supreme court of Canada and they deal with concluding on who has broken the law, and what penalty they should get. Canada has just legalized, in June 2016, some sexual acts between humans and animals. They’ve basically legalized bestiality which is sexual intercorse between a human and an animal.
According to the Canadian Supreme Court, it is ok for humans to have sexual interactions with animals as long as there is no penetration involved in the act. For example, a man recorded his dog licking peanut butter off of his daughter’s genitals. He was convicted and went to court, the ruling was that it was okay for him to do that, because penetration wasn’t involved. Another law Canada has passed is an act to make it harder to fly drones for fun, as of March of 2017. This law was passed because of incidents involving drones and Canadian airports. In June 2017, Canada made it illegal to use the wrong gender pronouns. Using the wrong gender pronouns could make one accused of hate crimes, jailed, fined, and made to take anti-bias training.
Because, gender identity and gender expression is Canada’s Human Rights Code and the hate crime category of its Criminal Code, it makes it illegal to discriminate people based on their gender expression.
