Has it happened to you that sometimes you go out, but forgot your cell phone at home, and you don’t feel complete? There’s a feeling somewhere inside that you’re missing something, a sense of insecurity prevails… welcome to the world of cell phone addiction! Cell phones are having a great influence in our lives, and are very convenient to keep with us. Cell phones are a faster and more effective way to transfer information. Indeed, it is a resource that gives its user’s great advantages. It took nearly 90 years for landlines to reach 100 million users, and took cellular service only 17 years to reach the same amount of people. The invention of the land line telephone was invented in 1876 by Alexander Graham Bell.
It made it possible for people to have verbal communications over long distance, drastically changing the way the world communicated. During the 21st century landlines telephone usage reached its highest peak in 2000. The basic concept of the cell phone began in 1947, however at that time technology was non-existent. Dr. Martin Cooper, a former general manager for the system division at Motorola, considered the inventor of the first modern portable headset. Cooper made the first call on a portable cell phone in April 1973.
Called cellular because the system uses many base stations to divide a service area into multiple “cells”. The cost of landline generally are less expensive. Landlines phone service providers provide free local calls, and usually doesn’t require a contract, but landline phones are hard wired so you can’t “take it with you”. Cell service costs are typically higher because of setup costs, hardware costs, and calling cost are generally higher. Most Cell phone providers do require a contract. People are able to carry their cell phone with them so they don’t miss out on important calls.
They are able because of their smaller size to be completely portable. It is also beneficial to be able to surf the internet and connect with the whole world. For business you are able to chat with clients or call the boss to say you’re running late. Reliability and the performance for a landline has some advantages.
There is better sound quality. They are also good back up if your cell phone isn’t charged. Cell phones on the other hand are plagued by no service, and weak signal service because they rely on a network of radio waves, cellular towers and satellites.
In some areas cell service is plagued by dropped calls, and fuzzy reception. The number of cell phones damages continues to rise each year. There is also the need to make sure your battery is charged. Cell phones for emergencies are wonderful tools.
You can call for roadside assistance, call for the police or an ambulance if an accident occurs. Most cell phones have a camera enabling you to take pictures of the accident as well. When making an emergency call you do need to state your address and describe your location, which sometimes can waste precious time.
Cell phones are safer to use during electrical storms because there isn’t a “direct path” connecting you to the lighting, as landlines are.Landlines do provide a fixed location that emergency responders can rush to. Alarm companies and certain other services require either a land line or added cost for wireless technology. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) doesn’t allow telemarketers to use automated dialers to cell phones without permission, with the landline unless you sign up for the no-call list they are free to call you. For the landline at home there is one benefit. Family, friends, and relatives can reach all members of the household (in theory) by dialing one number to talk or leave a message. With the age of cell phones there are so many more advantages in the daily use.
You can listen to music, text, and play games when you are bored, they also are equipped with a calculator and a phone book. The ease of which you can connect from one country to another using a roaming service makes it convenient to call whenever you like. You can also check your email and keep up to date with family and friends. For majority of the people, cell phones are the most convenient way for communication. The parents are also concerned about the safety of their children, for that the cell phone is an invaluable tool. When I was growing up we used a landline phone. Cell phones were not available.
As I have seen the technology grow, I feel the cell phone is the best form of communication. The ease and accessibility as well as the reliability far exceed the landline functions. I believe there is still a place for landline phones, for certain purposes. For the general population, the cell phone technology has surpassed the landline functionally. We need to stay current in the new technology.
The best way to do that is to jump right in and stay educated. With the use of the cellular phone the information that we need and look for is right at our fingertips.
