From the observations that are carried out by the practitioners, it can determine the next steps for the child. This will help to support the developmental needs of all the children. It is important for the practitioner to plan effectively because every child is unique and has different abilities, learning skills, attention spans and educational backgrounds; so each child needs different attention and support, and individual planning.

By planning effectively, when the activity is taking place, the practitioners would be able to notice if the child is struggling with anything; therefore would have to get in contact with other professions, such as a speech therapist and SENCo, for help and guidance about that child and how they could help them in any way possible. Margret McMillan’s theory is based on the child’s care needs and the importance it has in their lives; McMillan believed that experience and active learning was important, and emphasized relationships, feelings and ideas, as much as the physical aspects of moving and learning.

She thought play helps them to apply what they know and understand and because of this, McMillan set up nursery schools to put her theory into practice; McMillan was influenced by Froebel and agreed with him belief in the importance of spontaneous play.
