An orthodontist is someone who treats people who have problems with their teeth. This job is suitable for me because I have always wanted to treat people with medical problems. In the article, I read about orthodontics Nordqvist states “Orthodontics also includes treating and controlling various aspects of facial growth (dentofacial orthopedics) and the shape and development of the jaw.” (Nordqvist, 2016) This means that being an orthodontist is good for me because orthodontist treats people which, I have always wanted to do that. Being an orthodontist means that they get to treat people with bad teeth. They get to put on braces and check x-rays for people that need it. Also, orthodontists mostly check crowding, impacted teeth, overbites, underbites, reverse bites, open bite, cross bite, and spacing (gaps). As an orthodontist, they work in offices or clinics. The average orthodontist works 30-40 hours a week. While working so many hours they earn between 92,000 to 300,000 a year. Before being an orthodontist, people have to go to dental school first. In the Career Cruising site the text states “To become an orthodontist, you must first go to dental school. To do this, the first step is getting into a bachelor’s degree program. Many dental schools will let you apply after 2 years of college study. But admission to dental school is very competitive. Most dental students earn at least a bachelor’s degree before they apply.” (Career Crusing, Orthodontist, 2018). This means that before even going to dental school people have to get a bachelors degree. According to the career cruising website, first, you start as an Entry- Level General Dentist. The second level is an Associate Orthodontist. Finally, the third level is an Orthodontist in Private Practice. I want to be an orthodontist because I love to care for people. Being an orthodontist means that you can see people who are happy about their teeth, which I love to see people happy about how they look.
