Dyno tests are fine tuning tests precisely designed to measure and enhance the performance of a vehicle. It serves to tune a car to its most optimal state by altering the condition for the components to function inside the engine. Dyno tests could be done on any vehicle from motorcycles to heavy duty trucks, and are capable of directly exposing problems that cause a vehicle to become inefficient. The usage of a dyno test commonly specializes in the performance automotive field, some examples are race cars and bikes, as no other vehicle would require fine tuning more than those on the professional tracks. Although all risked vehicles go through the test at some stages of its lifespan, the need to conduct a dyno tuning test on performance vehicles is so crucial that it is conducted on a scheduled basis, monitored carefully to prevent any small differences, as they can largely affect the overall performance of the vehicle. The main characteristic of a physical dyno testing unit is that it is a combination of large rotating mechanical parts, connected to analyzing software that are responsible of providing readings and graphs of the tested subject.
Due to the needed space for the whole system, it can only be installed specifically, and usually only in car workshops. The complete system would give an image of a loud, dangerous and bulky system. The specialization and the customized set of skills needed to navigate this test narrows down the bandwidth of personnel capable of conducting it.
